Faze 7 - White

Faze 7 BMX Centre was the legendary shop owned by Joe Burlo, which played an important role in the early days of BMX in the UK. Joe began by selling BMX and skateboard gear from his home at 57 Putney Road, Enfield, before moving to new premises and eventually to the famous shop at Waltham Cross.  Joe was still working at the local dole office when he first opened the shop, and it was some time later that he left that job to work full time in the shop.  Famous customers included Jasper Conran, who bought a Hutch, and Redline UK team rider Keith Wilson ran the shop full time in 1983.

Sponsored riders included Redline racer Tony Slater, and freestyler and Hall of Fame Inductee Jess Dyrenforth.  Joe supported many riders, sponsoring racers and a freestyle team. Joe specialised in the ‘custom build’, many of which were built up by Tony Slater.  As well as retail sales, Joe also began to import and distribute parts and his battered old orange VW van was a familiar site at tracks around the country, driven by Les Slater, who would take the team riders to the races, along with gear from the shop to sell trackside. Joe was also a keen photographer and, when he wasn’t in the shop, could often be found taking pictures at the track or the skatepark.
